Obituary or Eulogy: Phillip Edward Smith, age 41, passed away suddenly on May 8, 2026. Born on November 22, 1984, in Philadelphia, Phill later made New Jersey his home, where he built a life centered around family, service, friendship, and helping others. A proud veteran, Phill served his country honorably in the United States Army, completing three overseas tours - one in Iraq and two in Afghanistan. After returning home from his third tour, he continued his dedication to service by joining the National Guard. Phill devoted more than 10 years of his life to serving the people of New Jersey as a New Jersey State Trooper. He took great pride in protecting his community and helping others during some of their most difficult moments. Those who knew him understood that being a Trooper was more than just a job to Phill - it was another way he could serve others with courage, compassion, and integrity. Phill had a deep love for music and could often be found playing his guitar. He loved the outdoors, spending evenings around a bonfire with close friends and enjoying a cold beer. He had a generous heart and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Above all else, Phill loved his son, Phillip Smith II, more than anything in the world. Being a father was his greatest pride and joy. Phill is survived by his beloved son, Phillip Smith II; his sister, Florence “Flossie” Noel; his younger brother, James Smith (Katie, Chance, Mary, JJ, and Cameron). He was preceded in death by his Mother, Grandparents, and his Great Uncle. Phill will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, strength, sense of humor, stubbornness, and the countless lives he touched through his generosity and compassion. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects 10AM Thursday, May 21st at Evoy Funeral Homes, Inc. 3218 Bayshore Road North Cape May NJ 08204. A Memorial Service will be held at 12PM immediately following the viewing. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. more... less...
